IT support for home and office
The same approach as the repair bench, applied to kit that is still in daily use: what is wrong, what it costs and how long it takes, before anything is touched. From one slow computer to the whole stack behind an online shop.
A good part of the job is not buying new hardware without needing to. A computer that drags usually has a full disk, an old mechanical drive or too little memory — all three are an afternoon's work. When an upgrade genuinely is the cheaper answer, I say exactly which component to buy and why, rather than leaving the choice to the shop.
The infrastructure behind a site or an online shop is several separate things — hosting, domain, DNS records, mail, SSL certificate, database — and the fault is nearly always in one of them rather than in the site itself. I keep them monitored, renew certificates before they lapse and keep backups, so nothing is discovered missing at the moment it is needed.
